We left Joshua Tree National Park and we were headed to the Grand Canyon. John has family on the way and we wanted to visit. The timing of it all worked out perfectly. We met John's cousin Bonnie just off the freeway and followed her to their ranch. We were catching up and having a couple of drinks. She offered to let us park our RV on their land, and we were like, "why not?"
The land has been in the family for about 35 years. It is surrounded by beautiful rocky mountains that are covered in cacti. There is also a lot of BLM land around the area. It is wild out there! There are mountain lions, coyotes, scorpions, gila monsters, rattle snakes, and really mean plants.
I would say that we couldn't have planned this visit any better, since it was still early in the year and the weather was mild. There is so much to do on the ranch. We went on a family ride up to the mine. I rode the quad with Colin and Scarlett, and John rode the motorcycle with Ava. Ava had fun, but she wanted to go faster!
We also got to spend some quality time with John's cousin Alexis. She brought one of the horses out, brushed it, and saddled it up. The kids were a little apprehensive of the horses at first, but quickly got over their fears. She led the horse and we each got to take a couple laps around the property. I'm sure it's something the kids will never forget!
Bonnie took us out to the top of a hill that had a memorial rock. It is a place of remembrance of family that has passed. We rode out on a couple of dirt bikes and a quad. It was so peaceful and beautiful up there.
After we got back to the house we went on a walk to the wash. We collected some really cool shiny rocks, and shot some guns.
Our stay with Bonnie, Beard, and Alexis was awesome! It has been a number of years since John has seen his cousin, so it was great to catch up. Thank you, Bonnie, for your hospitality! We look forward to seeing you soon!!
